It took forever to get all the rust off of the parts. I used a wire brush on my disk grinder for most of it, but eventually had to resort to the HCl method. The acid got rid of most of the rust on the INSIDE of the vent hinge. The flap had rusted permanently in the open position. But now it opens and closes freely.
