After scribing the current location of the hinges
with respect to the car body, and with respect to
the door, I removed the door and hinges. The door
is held on by 6 hex-head screws. The hinges are
held to the car body by #4 Phillips screws
(3 on the top, 2 on the bottom) and 9/16 hex screws
(2 on the top, 1 on the bottom). I looked all over
for a #4 Phillips bit for an impact wrench, but
with no luck. In fact, Ace Hardware was the only
place around that even had a #4 screwdriver. In the
end, I just put a set of vice grips on the screw
driver and they came right out.
To my surprise, the hinges had about 1/8-inch of
play--implying almost an inch of up/down motion on
the lock side of the door. The bushings would need
to be replaced!
