As you may recall, the reason for removing the door
in the first place was to deal with the rusted
areas. The rusted areas on the side and the bottom
should really be replaced with new sheet metal. The
problem, however is that i don't know how to weld.
As a result, I am going to use lead to fix these
areas, as I will on much of the car.
The first step in leading a region is preparing a slab of beef tallow for lubricating the wooden paddles as you spread the molten lead. The tallow keeps the paddle from sticking to the hot lead. Our local butcher was happy to give me couple pounds of beef fat. Slow melting the fat in a crock pot yielded the tallow, which was filtered through a cloth. Upon cooling, this produced a hard soapy substance, which is what we are after.
I made a large wooden paddle out of a piece of scrap hardwood that I've had lying around for some time. After making the paddle, I checked with the source of the wood and--to my horror--found that it was Honduran Mahogany, a tree which is now extinct. So, I turned one of the last pieces of Honduran Mahogany in the world--into, well, a **stick**.
